Psychological Astrology, also known as Modern Astrology, is a branch of astrology that florished in the 60's and 70's with renowned astrologers such as Dane Rudhyar and Liz Greene. It brings psychology and astrology together focusing on self-exploration as a way to deeper understand our individual potentials and challenges.
It draws its philosophy mainly from the psychoanalyst Carl Jung, who analysed birth charts through what he called archetypes - primitive mental images that we inherit from our ancestrals. Each planet is connected to one of these images and they represent different parts of someone's character.
Through out our lives and for many reasons, we end up losing contact or distorting the different parts of our psyche, of our personality, which can produce negative/unhealthy habits and patterns. By identifying these blocks, we can enter into closer dialogue with our sub-personalities so that we can transform and find constructive ways to express them. We can then hopefully start walking towards a more intimate relationship with ourselves and, consequently, a more fulfilling life.
